Welcome to the National Rifle Association’s Refuse To Be A Victim® (RTBAV) Online Instructor Development Workshop. Refuse To Be A Victim® is NRA’s award-winning personal safety and crime prevention program. This instructor development workshop will provide you with the training and credentials required to teach Refuse To Be A Victim® Seminars in your community. These sought-after seminars teach participants how to improve their personal safety strategies, and what techniques and tactics can be used to help avoid becoming easy victims of crime. In general, seminars heighten public awareness of what can and should be done to stay safe.

What You Will Learn

The course begins with a complete Refuse To Be A Victim® Seminar conducted by two experienced instructors. This seminar is presented as a model to show students what a professionally presented seminar should look like. Short quizzes are built-in to each topic section. 

After viewing the seminar, students will go on to:

  • NRA policies and procedures
  • Instructor guidelines
  • Program goals, philosophies and administration
  • Planning, promoting, conducting and closing a seminar

During these lessons, special assignments will include:

  • Planning a mock seminar
  • Completing and submitting a grant application
  • Exploring the NRA Program Materials Center
  • Generating a business card and letterhead
  • Writing a press release for local media
  • Developing a seminar promotion plan

Materials & Resources

Materials included with the course are:

  • Instructor Development Workshop Kit, which includes the RTBAV instructor's manual, promotional DVD, Instructor CD, RTBAV student packet, which includes the  student handbook, student firearm supplement, seminar participation certificate, RTBAV program brochure, and "Become a RTBAV Instructor" brochure.

Participants must have access to MS Word and Adobe to complete assignments.

 

Completion & Expiration

The course requires approximately 12-14 hours to complete. Participants can work at their own pace, on their schedule, 24 hours a day, but the entire course must be completed within the allotted timeframe of two weeks (14 calendar days, including weekends). Access will be denied after the closing date and time. Sessions run from the 1st to the 15th, and the 15th to the 29th, of each month. You may progress at your own pace, and repeat any lesson, but each lesson must be completed before advancing to the next. At the end of the course, an Instructor Candidate Quiz must be completed, along with an Instructor Agreement and Instructor Application Form, and emailed to your online professor.

 

Registration & Payment

In order to receive Refuse To Be A Victim® Instructor credentials, candidates must:

  • Be 18 years of age or older
  • Have a clear criminal record

The price of this course is $250.00 No additional fees are required. Tuition includes the course fee, required student materials, and NRA instructor certification fee for the first two years. There are no refunds once payment is received.

Note: NRA instructor certification fees must be renewed every two years. The current renewal rate is $30 for two years for NRA members and $50 for two years for non-members.
